Justin Molyneaux, the USA Head of Games2win recently visited the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) where he met with the Chair of the Computer Science Department, Professor Jim Whitehead and his senior Game Design students.
The class was divided up into seven game production teams, each with the mission of creating one game over the course of the school year. All of the games were unique and ranged from physics puzzlers to voice activated horror adventures to action shooters. The games could be built for any platform, including PC, iOS, iPad, and Android. Several of the teams built games for multiple platforms, quite an impressive accomplishment. One team was even ambitious enough to take on the challenge of creating a multi-player title.
Justin visited Professor Whitehead’s class with the intent of playing each game and providing insider feedback and insight. Justin says, “I planned to be there for the entire three hour class period, but actually ended up staying two hours longer because the games were so fun and the students had lots of questions about the industry and game design.”
All in all, it was a really exciting afternoon for Justin and the students. Justin goes on to explain, “It was great to sit down with the students and hear about their games. I thoroughly enjoyed playing all of the titles and giving constructive feedback. I look forward to seeing the finished products and to cheering these new ‘game-makers’ at the Sammy Awards this June.”
